This is book 1 in the series. The other two ‘The Fairies of Carlow: The Outsider’ and ‘The Fairies of Carlow: The Commoner’ are also available. All three can be purchased in paperback or you can get them as an ebook.

I’m planning on the fourth book in the series, thanks to a question about Lady Zepherine. (You can meet her in ‘The Gilding’). Currently, I’m in the planning and plotting stage. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them!

I hope you enjoy ‘The Fairies of Carlow: The Gilding!’ Sonja

It’s Wonderful Wondering Wednesday and I’m awaiting your questions. I do reserve the right not to answer it, but would love to hear what you’re thinking.

You can ask me here or via email at sonjadanielson.com.

Are you wondering about The Fairies of Carlow series, or Guinness the Therapy Dog, Lucy the Wonder Dog, The Voyage, or something else?

I tend to say everything in my posts, but if I missed something that left you wondering, I will address it.

Tell me what you want to know! Sonja

Have you seen the new prices?

The ebook for The Fairies of Carlow: The Commoner has been reduced! Now you can get any ebook in the series for the same low price! This will be a permanent price change, but I will occasionally put the ebooks up for free.

Watch this site for an announcement since I don’t follow a set schedule.

Happy reading! Sonja

Have You-

Have you read one of my books? I would love to hear your comments!

Please leave a review on Amazon.com and Good Reads. It matters!

Right now I am working on two manuscripts meant for grown-ups (under a pen name, so there’s no confusion!) And then I plan to add another Guinness the Therapy Dog book and add to The Fairies of Carlow series.

Where would you like Guinness to go?

Who would you like to read about from the Kingdom of Carlow?

Let me know and I’ll tell you if I used your idea! Sonja

Book Sale!

From time to time I put my ebooks on sale. If you’re in the market for an ebook, check this website for announcements. I don’t have a specific schedule, but I do announce the sales here and on my Instagram (@author_sonja_danielson).

The Fairies of Carlow series is filled with middle grade books. That means chapters, no illustrations, and a more complex plot. These aren’t Young Adult books, so the subject matter should be appropriate for those readers of any age who are advanced enough to handle chapters.

The Voyage and the Guinness the Therapy Dog series are illustrated books. They are meant to be easy-to-read books, suitable for those learning how to read.

The Voyage is based on historical fact. It is set in the 1600s and looks at English history and how a preacher travels through Europe in search of religious freedom.

Guinness is a real therapy dog, and Lucy is his real-life older sister. They live with me. The books are based on Guinness’s adventures and his relationship with Lucy.

I hope you enjoy them. Sonja

Unboxing the books!

One of the most fun things is to get a box of books in the mail. From the covers to the pages, I love getting books.

These days, it takes a long time to get stuff shipped–since the shipping sources have been affected, as well as the supply lines. Order what you want and have the patience to wait. The people working to get it to you are battling a lot of negativity and unhappiness from the scarcity of several things as well.

Make sure you thank your delivery drivers–and wave when they drive by. It’s a good way to bridge the gap of social distancing!

I was out walking Guinness the Therapy Dog and waited for the Fed Ex truck to pass by before we crossed a side street. It wasn’t a big deal for me or Guinness, but it meant a lot to the driver and he called out a thank you. It was nice to show caring in such a simple way.

Tell me your ideas for bridging the social distancing gap! Sonja

#TBT

It’s Throwback Thursday and I’m looking back at my first book series: The Fairies of Carlow.

These middle-grade books have chapters and are based on a fairy kingdom. They come from Ireland and now are in the United States. With magic, they find their way through their teen years. Not only do they grapple with the angst that accompanies that time, but the Red Caps are causing trouble.

These wicked creatures bring chaos and fear to the kingdom and cause trouble throughout the series.

Each book stands alone, but you get to revisit the characters from previous books and can see what they’ve been up to since their story was told in their book.

One of the benefits of staying home these days is the ability to read more. Ebooks are always available while print books may take a while to ship, depending on where they are coming from and how well the shipping lines are doing to your town.

Personally, I love ebooks and carry my Kindle around in my purse. That way, when I’m stuck in a line I can take out my book instead of standing around getting bored or irritated.

Bonus: all of my books are available as ebooks!!! Just for you! Sonja

Did You Get a Copy?

A couple of weekends ago I offered the ebook versions of these titles for free. So many downloads! I hope you were one of those who took advantage of the offer.

If not, you can order the ebook or the paperback using the direct links in the left margin of this website. You can also find my entire book catalog at Amazon.com. Just search for my name, ‘Sonja Danielson’, and all my titles will come up.

“The Voyage” is a true history of one of the founding families of the American Colonies. I happen to be a member of that family. Doing the research was fun and I learned so much about the patriarch who instigated the family’s move from England and Europe to the American colonies.

He didn’t live long enough to move to Plymouth Colony, but his wife and sons booked passage on a ship and arrived in Boston, along with his father-in-law and sister-in-law. The story of his father-in-law, Stephen Bachiler, is very interesting and I plan to research and write about it.

So many stories float through my head and I want to write them all!

Please leave a review on Amazon.com or Good Reads if you have read one of my books. I would love to see what you think! Sonja

It’s the Day to Wear Green!

Photo by Cole Keister on Unsplash

It’s because of massive emigration to the United States that the “wearing of the green”, dying drinks green, and shamrocks (the national plant of Ireland) became synonymous with all things Irish.

Prior to that, Saint Patrick was associated with the color blue. But Ireland has celebrated his date of death for more than one thousand years.

Saint Patrick was born in Britain under Roman rule. He was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave when he was sixteen years old. He escaped that situation but returned to Ireland in 432 AD to convert the masses to Christianity.

Saint Patrick died on March 17, 461 AD after establishing monasteries, churches, and schools.

In Ireland, March 17th is typically a day of morning church services and afternoon feasting. This day falls within the season of Lent, but the prohibition on meat is lifted and the traditional Irish meal of Irish bacon and cabbage usually grace the table.

Today, more than one hundred cities host parades in honor of Saint Patrick. In New York City, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is watched by almost three million people. The parade typically takes more than five hours to travel the 1.5 miles. Chicago dyes its river green. Most of the population of the U.S. wears a bit of green, delivers pinches to those who don’t, and claim Irish descent-warranted or not.

Erin go Bragh-Éire go Brách-Ireland until the end of time! Sonja

A Cancellation and Sadness
