I have several favorite mugs. This one reminds me to be optimistic-such as now when I get daily rejections as I search for an agent.
It’s difficult sometimes.
My other favorite statement mugs remind me about my goals for writing (draw out emotions and help the reader live the plot)–and lists insults penned by Shakepeare (or whoever wrote those plays).
Of course, I much prefer to use my pretty teacups.
I have several teacups-all dainty. They help me get into an historical mood. Right now my evil twin is writing books based in the Regency and Medieval eras. These aren’t meant for kids, but for their moms.
What do you use to remind yourself to see the happier side of life?
Let me know. Sonja

This story focuses on one of Carlow’s royal princesses, who is chafing under the restrictions placed on her by the king. He wants to protect his family from the continual marauding of the dreaded Red Caps. They are able to breach the magical border of the kingdom, despite new restrictions on entering or exiting the kingdom. They were first able to enter the kingdom with help from gnome technology.
The gnomes have since made amends and are working to re-establish their friendly relationship with the fairies, but the Red Caps continue to progress the initial technology.
In a fit of pique, she flies from her suite of rooms and punches through the forcefield that protects the palace. She wants only to have a brief respite from all the rules. Unfortunately, she doesn’t see the horse and rider barreling through the rainy night until they are upon her. When she awakens from the accident, she is asleep in a strange cottage with absolutely no idea who she is or why she was out in the weather without cloak, boots, or bonnet. Now, she must learn how to live life as a commoner.
Today is the final day to get your FREE ebook of The Gilding, the first book in The Fairies of Carlow book series.
This series is comprised of middle-grade books. There are chapters, a complex plot, but the subject matter is appropriate for those as young as 3rd grade. I have received comments from all age groups about how enjoyable these books are-so while they are categorized as children’s books, they resonate with adults, too.
You can follow the link on this website (in the left margin) or enter my name into the search bar of Amazon.com to find this book. The price will be automatically adjusted to FREE no matter how you get there.
The ebook for The Gilding, the first book in The Fairies of Carlow series, is available for free! Get your copy now!!!
The Gilding is a middle-grade book, suitable for good readers in 3rd grade all the way up into adulthood. The themes aren’t too advanced for the younger age group, but the plot is complex enough to keep everyone happy.
The three books in this series stand on their own. You will get a glimpse into these characters in the next book to see what they’re up to as time marches forward. I love seeing how characters move forward in their lives, not in epilogue form but in glimpses during stories set a little later in time.
I hope you enjoy this gift to you, dear reader. Sonja

This is book 1 in the series. The other two ‘The Fairies of Carlow: The Outsider’ and ‘The Fairies of Carlow: The Commoner’ are also available. All three can be purchased in paperback or you can get them as an ebook.
I’m planning on the fourth book in the series, thanks to a question about Lady Zepherine. (You can meet her in ‘The Gilding’). Currently, I’m in the planning and plotting stage. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them!
I hope you enjoy ‘The Fairies of Carlow: The Gilding!’ Sonja

Today is a day to remember your favorite things. Since it’s the day after Thanksgiving, I like to remember watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the National Dog Show.
What’s interesting is today is Square Dance Day, which melds nicely with the parade memories! You can try all those moves you saw on T.V., or, if you’re lucky enough, live while in New York City!
Guinness likes the dog show, too. A Bernese Mountain Dog has yet to win Best In Show, but I think Guinness has a shot at the title–especially if they score big points for lovability!
We spent Monday evening at the library and Guinness listened to some good books–read by some good readers! Those kids really know their words and even acted out the dialogue. It was fun! Guinness likes to lie right alongside the kids as they read. He rolls onto his back and hopes for a belly rub. He always gets one.
The Fairies of Carlow: The Commoner ebook is still under special pricing until midnight tonight. Hurry to the amazon.com page and order your copy! You can also use the link in the left margin of this website.
It’s an important day for all those in the United States. Today is Thanksgiving. My new book, The Voyage, would be a wonderful read to mark this day. It tells of the trials of a man who traveled throughout Europe as he searched for religious freedom.
His family settled first in Plymouth Colony and then to Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. This illustrated easy-to-read book is available exclusively on Amazon.com.
I’m also offering Book 3 of The Fairies of Carlow, The Commoner, at special pricing starting today. This book is a middle-grade chapter book and takes place in a fairy kingdom. The Commoner tells the story of a fairy princess who chafes under the restrictions placed upon her. She flees the palace and lives as a commoner. Will she return to her royal life?
I hope you take advantage of the special pricing, which ends on November 30, and also take a look at my newest book.
I’m celebrating this holiday week by scheduling a special pricing event for book 3 of The Fairies of Carlow!
